Mobile devices are becoming increasingly popular. One reason for their popularity is the availability of a wide range of third-party applications, which enrich the environment and increase usability.  There are however various concerns centered around these applications: privacy leakage, malware, etc. 

In this talk, I will present our recent research to secure these apps towards a more trustworthy Android ecosystem.  One representative work is Uranine, a system that instruments Android applications to detect privacy leakages in real-time. Uranine does not require any platform modification nor does it need the application source code. It includes a static analysis component to instrument only paths along which privacy leakage may happen. We designed several mechanisms to overcome challenges introduced by framework code, callback functions, etc. Our evaluation of Uranine shows that it is accurate at detecting privacy leakages while providing acceptable performance, with often unnoticeable overhead. 

主講人介紹: 

陳焰， 2003年獲加州大學伯克利分校計算機科學博士學位，現為西北大學電子工程與計算機科學系教授，互聯網安全技術實驗室主任，主要研究方向為Internet網絡安全和網絡管理/測量。2005年獲得美國能源部青年成就獎（Early CAREER Award），2007年獲得美國國防部（Air Force of Scientific Research）青年學者獎（Young Investigator Award），2004和2005年分別獲得Microsoft可信計算獎（Trustworthy Computing Awards）。2010-2011 年被清華大學信息學院邀請為桑坦德海外訪問學者. 2012 年入選浙江省千人（海鷗計劃）加盟浙大任特聘教授。 　　  

Google Scholar顯示，論文總引用超過6000次，H-index指數為32。有2項美國專利（另提交了4項）。論文Generic and Automatic Address Configuration for Data Center Networks 入選SIGCOMM 2010最佳論文候選，應邀直接在ACM/IEEE ToN上出版.  在ACM/IEEE Transaction on Networking (ToN)、IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC)、IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC)、Journal of Computer Networks等頂級期刊和SIGCOMM、IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy（Oakland）、USENIX NSDI、NDSS、 ACM ASPLOS、SIGCOMM IMC、IEEE / IFIP DSN 等頂級會議上發表了80余篇論文。擔任IWQoS2007、SecureComm 2009和Globecom 2010 NGN等國際會議的技術程序委員會主席，并受邀加入ACM Computer and Communication Security (CCS) 2009，2011 和SIGCOMM IMC 2009的組織委員會, 并擔任ACM CCS 2011的總主席及 World Wide Web (WWW) 2012的技術程序委員會副主席(分管計算機安全和隱私領域). 擔任包括ACM MOBICOM、NDSS、 INFOCOM、ICNP、ICDCS在內的多個國際會議的程序委員會成員。擔任IWQoS會議指導委員會成員(2008-2011)。自2004年起多次受邀在美國自然科學基金委信息科學與工程處擔任評委, 并多次受邀擔任美國能源部(DOE)和美國空軍科研部(DOD) SBIR計劃及STTR計劃的評委。　　  

研究項目獲美國自然科學基金委多次資助，并與Motorola, NEC, 華為等多家公司有項目合作并獲資助。2013年受邀為中國互聯網企業安全工作組學術委員會成員。
